Tokyo zoo limits panda viewing to one minute; line remains four hours.
Ueno Zoo is preparing for large crowds as fans say goodbye to Japan's last pandas, with strict viewing time limits in place.
Man, let me tell you, Ueno Zoo is making major moves to keep the crowd rolling as everyone rushes to say goodbye to Japan’s last pandas, Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei. These little stars are leaving soon, and folks have known it was coming. Born at Ueno but kids of a loan agreement with China, their departure means Japan will be panda-less for the first time since '72. You know it’s emotional!
To handle the massive waves of fans, starting December 23, you’ll need advance online reservations for the panda viewing area. This past Tuesday though, panda lovers thought they’d beat the rush and showed up early. But the line? It was like a blockbuster premiere! Four-hour waits had the zoo shutting it down by 1 p.m. You can only spend a minute with the twins, but that didn’t stop everyone from capturing those memories fast! Heading into the last days of public viewing, the zoo’s limiting guests to 4,800 during peak times, and it’s switching to a lottery system for reservations starting January 14. Hang on tight, because January 25 is the big goodbye!
