Now, this mainly affects naturalized citizens, but it also helps foreign spouses and kids adopted by Japanese nationals—because their nationality gets reflected in the family register too. Right now, they had to mark China as their origin since Japan doesn’t officially recognize Taiwan as a country. Talk about a big step forward!
