Japan's "phantom" melon sells out in 12 hours due to its high quality.
Tokushu Kusatsu Melon, grown with electrolysed hydrogen water, is a rare, ultra-sweet fruit that sells out quickly in Japan.
Get ready, because melon season in Japan has arrived, and there's one that’s a superstar – the Kusatsu Melon. Grown at Yokoe Farm, this beauty is known for its mind-blowing sweetness, reaching over 17 degrees Brix. It's so rare that people call it a “phantom” fruit, selling out in just 12 hours. We got our hands on one, and as soon as we opened the box, the sweet aroma hit us like a dream.
Now, we had to let it sit for about a week to ripen because that’s the secret to its next-level taste. Once we finally sliced in, we were greeted by vibrant green flesh that was juicy beyond belief. The sweetness? Unmatched! Sure, it could have waited a bit longer for that extra soft touch near the skin, but the closer to the seeds, it was pure, luscious bliss. By the end, we devoured the whole thing in one sitting. This premium melon is worth every bit of the 4,500 yen price tag, and even though this year’s crop is gone, you better believe we’ll be watching for the next release next June.
