Japan initiates legal support for crime victims.
Japan launched a free legal assistance program for crime victims and bereaved families to provide support in various legal matters.
Japan just launched a new program to provide comprehensive legal assistance for victims of serious crimes and bereaved families, starting Tuesday. The Japan Legal Support Center, also known as Houterasu, is handling this support to ensure that financial barriers don’t prevent folks from getting the help they deserve. This assistance is basically free for those with current assets of ¥3 million ($18,900) or less.
The program covers serious crimes, including murder, dangerous driving causing death, and sexual offenses. It also addresses significant injuries that take over three months to heal or result in long-term disabilities. Victims can apply for incidents occurring from January 13 onward. Assignments will provide crucial support by preparing legal documents, negotiating settlements, and even attending police visits with victims, helping them face the legal challenges ahead without the added stress.
