Future delivery starts in smart city Minami-Osawa.
In May 2025, Lomby, an autonomous delivery robot, began delivering groceries in Hachioji City, improving accessibility for residents.
In May 2025, Lomby, the autonomous delivery robot, kicked off outdoor deliveries in Hachioji City, Tokyo, as part of the Smart City Tokyo initiative. Thanks to the 7-11 delivery app, locals can have groceries delivered straight to their homes. Tomoharu Uchiyama, CEO of Lomby Inc., emphasized that with an aging society and labor shortages, Lomby aims to tackle access issues for those unable to shop easily. This robot navigates the hilly terrain of the area and delivers from two 7-Eleven stores, offering around 3,000 items with a delivery fee of just 330 yen.
The community's response has been fantastic; even kids wait eagerly for Lomby. They can track its journey on the app, and the robot's safety features help foster neighborhood security. Operating smoothly at 6 km/h while recognizing traffic signals, Lomby pauses for pedestrians to ensure safety. Supported by the Minami-Osawa Smartcity Council, efforts are underway to integrate more smart services in the area. Uchiyama aims to establish a successful model in Minami-Osawa before expanding globally, tackling delivery challenges worldwide.
